Late for Soul Asylum, On Time for Archbishop Desmond Tutu…

Hello, friends.  We’re currently driving at about 67 mph up Highway 94 in Wisconsin, having just stopped in Badger Country to drop off some folks in trade for a V8 (which, in case you were wondering, is the equivelent of eating 2 full servings of vegetables), en route to the National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis.  Sean had a V8 this morning in Chicago, highly recommended it, and I followed suit in Madison.  He’s a smart dude, so I followed his suggestion.  Delish!

We were expecting to get in with enough time tonight to see the band Soul Asylum.  Remember them?!

They’re playing as part of tonight’s 2008 State Farm Awards Celebration.  Turns out the early bus out of Chicago to Minneapolis was sold out by the time we got in from Cleveland at 5:10am, so we had to hop on a later one and it looks like we’re going to miss out tonight.

Our good friend Mat Hanson (D.C. AmeriCorps ‘06, ‘07), who is originally from Minneapolis and helped coordinate the pieces of Sunday’s ServeNext Twin Cities Chapter Launch, hooked Sean and I up with media credentials for tonight and tomorrow at the National Service-Learning Conference.  Thanks, Mat.

Bummed about Soul Asylum, but psyched about Archbishop Desmond Tutu tomorrow morning!

Friday, April 11
Plenary Session Featuring Human Rights Activist and Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Auditorium, 9:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m.
Join your fellow conference participants for engaging speakers and live performances, including a keynote speech from human rights activist and Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. NYLC is proud to partner with PeaceJam, youthrive, and Metropolitan State University in hosting Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

We’re going to try our hardest to stream the event to you live tomorrow morning at 10:00am EST, but we’ll see what happens.  At the very least, live blogging may be appropriate - yeah?

Yeah.  Tune in…
